Shortcut menus are context sensitive, and only valid operations will be displayed. #### Shortcuts by Report Type The following shortcuts are available (note, assume both fields come from the same time unless specified otherwise): | Option | Dropped Field | Target Field | Feature | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | **Scatter Plot** | [numeric discrete field] | [numeric discrete field] | A 2-dimensional [Multi-Function Profile](/v1/docs/multi-function-profile-quick-reference) with chart type of [scatter](/v1/docs/qq-how-do-i-create-a-scatter-plot) will be created. | | **Function Profile** | [numeric field] | [discrete field] | The dropped field will become the [measure](/v1/docs/functional-overview-3) in a [profile](/v1/docs/profile) that has the target field as the [dimensions](/v1/docs/functional-overview-2). | | **Multi-Function Profile** | [numeric field] | [discrete field] | A [Multi-Function-Profile](/v1/docs/multi-function-profile) will be calculated with [sum of dropped field] as the [measure](/v1/docs/mfprofile-measures) and [target field] as the [dimension](/v1/docs/mfprofile-dimensions). | | **Crosstab** | [low cardinality discrete field] | [low cardinality discrete field] | A [profile](/v1/docs/profile) report with the dropped field as the [pivot](/v1/docs/functional-overview-2) will be created. | | **Aggregate Sum** | [numeric field] | joined [primary table] | A derived field will be added to the primary table containing the [sum of](/v1/docs/aggregate) [dropped field] for each linked record. | | **Aggregate All** | [numeric field] | joined [primary table] | A set of fields [summarizing](/v1/docs/aggregate) the numeric field (Sum, Min, Max, Count, Avg) will be added to the primary table. | | **Copy Up** | [field] | joined [primary table] | The dropped field will be [copied](/v1/docs/copy-up) onto the primary table. | | **Join** | [field] from one table | [field] of *matching field and data type* in an unjoined [table] | The tables will be joined with the dropped field becoming the Primary Key, and the target field the Foreign Key. | | **Dimension** (dimension**) Measure Analysis** | [numeric field] | [low cardinality discrete field] | A [dashboard](/v1/docs/dashboard-overview-introduction) will be created, showing the following 4 reports - [*Profile*](/v1/docs/profile) of target field - [*Statistics*](/v1/docs/statistics-getting-started) for dropped field - [*Multi-Function Range Profile*](/v1/docs/multi-function-profile), where dimension = target field, measures (Min, Max, Avg) of dropped field - [*Function Profile*](/v1/docs/functional-overview-3) where dimension = target field, measure = dropped field, function = AVG. | | **Discrete Statistics** | [numeric discrete field] | [discrete field] | A [multi-field statistics](/v1/docs/multi-field-statistics) report with the dropped field as the repeated field for which statistics are calculated, with the values from the target field as "repeated categorical variables" (i.e., filter/label) for each row. | | **Range Profile** | [numeric discrete field] (not low cardinality) | [discrete field] | A [Multi-Function Range Profile](/v1/docs/multi-function-profile) where dimension = target field, and measures (min, max and avg) of dropped field. | Note: To get rid of a shortcut menu, press **escape**. Shortcut menus can be configured so that they will only appear when the LEFT SHIFT key is held down. This is controlled via - Tools | Settings | Set Tree Short Cuts on Shift - Tools | Settings | Quick Tree Short Cuts #### Shortcuts by Field and Data Type | Drop Field Type | Data Type | Available Shortcuts | | --- | --- | --- | | String | low cardinality discrete field | - Crosstab | | String | Discrete Field | - Copy Up - Join (Note - integer join keys are faster) | | String | Continuous Field | - Copy Up | | Integer | low cardinality discrete field | - Crosstab - Copy Up - Aggregate (any) | | Integer | Discrete Field | - Crosstab - Copy Up - Join - Aggregate (any) - Scatter Plot - Function Profile - Multi-Function Profile - Dimension Measure Analysis - Discrete Statistics - Range Profile | | Integer | Continuous | - Copy Up - Join - Scatter Plot - Function Profile - Multi-Function Profile | | Double | low cardinality discrete field | - Crosstab - Copy Up - Join - Aggregate (any) | | Double | Discrete Field | - Copy Up - Join - Aggregate (any) - Scatter Plot - Function Profile - Multi-Function Profile - Dimension Measure Analysis - Discrete Statistics - Range Profile | | Double | Continuous | - Copy Up - Join - Aggregate (any) - Scatter Plot - Function Profile - Multi-Function Profile | | Date | Discrete Field | - Crosstab - Copy Up - Join - Aggregate (any) - Scatter Plot - Function Profile - Multi-Function Profile - Dimension Measure Analysis - Discrete Statistics - Range Profile | | DateTime | Continuous | - Join - Aggregate (any) | An aggregate is a cross-table statistical summary calculation, such as Min, Max, Sum, Average, Count. It summarizes data for [linked records](/v1/docs/joins). For example, if there is a customer table linked to a transaction table via customer ID, an [aggregate](/v1/docs/aggregate) could be calculated on the customer table that provided Total Spending for each customer. A dimension is a qualitative variable that provides context and meaning to a metric or measure. It is used to group data. Usually a dimension is a discrete field (or column). Dimensions provide row groupings for tabulations and profiles, and are similar to "row fields" in a spreadsheet pivot table. A discrete field (indexed) with less than 15 discrete values A Discrete Field is a field that has an index applied to it so that frequency counts within the field are easily discoverable. Some database systems refer to discrete fields as categorical fields. In DataJet discrete fields can be of any data type, although date fields and dataset fields are always discrete. If a field is discrete it will: - be expandable in the Database Tree-View, - can be profiled. - can be used as a parameter in a variety of engineering functions A continuous field is a field that can have an unknown number of unique values, and for which it is not valid to calculate frequency counts, profiles etc. Descriptive data are usually continuous, as well as DateTime fields, keys, names, addresses, measurements etc. Continuous fields can be all [field types](/v1/docs/getting-started-data-types).
